Why are some Broadband products only available in certain areas?

Telefonica are continually expanding the network through which they provide broadband products, and this has reached most parts of the country. With each day, more and more people are able to get broadband in Spain.

What is a wireless router?

A router allows you to connect several PCs or laptops to the internet, so several people in your home can be online at the same time. A wireless router uses radio signals to communicate between the various computers connected to it, doing away with messy cables. If your computing equipment isn't currently set up for wireless connection to the internet, you can buy the necessary equipment which are readily available in most electronic and IT shops.

Can I get Broadband on its own without a telephone line?

No. To get broadband, you need to have a Telefonica telephone line. Learn more about pricing and information.

What do I need to get Telefonica Broadband?

To get Telefonica Broadband, you need to have a Telefonica landline. You'll also need a PC that meets Telefonica Broadband's minimum system requirements.

What kind of computer do I need for Telefonica Broadband?

To get Telefonica broadband, you'll need to make sure your computer meets the minimum specifications below. You'll also need to maintain an active Telefonica landline.
PC minimum specification:
• Windows 2000 or higher
• 133MHz or higher
• Spare Ethernet port
• 100MB hard drive space
• RAM - 64MB or higher
Mac minimum specification:
• Processor - 266MHz Power PC G3 or greater
• Spare Ethernet port
• OS X v10.2.6 (Jaguar) or higher
• RAM - 128MB

Is there a minimum contract length?

The minimum contract is 12 months. However you may cancel this contract if you move house or find the service unsatisfactory.

Do I need a Telefonica telephone line?

You need an active Telefonica telephone line to use Telefonica broadband, you do not have to be a Telefonica customer. We check this when you order. If you are moving from a different telephone company or have recently moved to a new house, you need to be the registered owner of that telephone line. We suggest you wait 24 hours after your telephone line has been activated before signing up for Telefonica broadband.

What is the range of wireless broadband?

Your Telefonica wirless router wireless signal can be up to 150m (490ft), so you can surf the Internet anywhere in your home or apartment.

Will I need to buy a new computer?

No. Many of today's PCs and Macs are already wireless enabled. If this is not the case, you may need to buy a wireless adapter.
If you don't have a wireless enabled device, wireless adapters are available for everything from laptops to music systems.

How many computers can I connect to the wireless router?

You can connect up to 4 computers on your Telefonica router.
To connect more than one PC using Ethernet, you simply need to attach each PC to the router using an Ethernet cable. You can connect up to four PCs in this way.
To connect more than one PC wirelessly, you will need to have a wireless adapter installed on each of the PCs you wish to use and then configure each adapter with
the necessary security information.

Yes and the wireless router is fully compatible with Windows Vista.

What are the Apple Macintosh system requirements for Telefonica Broadband?

OS X v10.2.6 (Jaguar) or later operating system, 128MB of memory, a 266MHz Power PC G3 processor, 100MB of hard drive space, the Safari browser and either a vacant ethernet port (for a wired connection) or the Apple AirPort for a wireless connection.

What is a microfilter / splitter and why do I need one?

A microfilter is a small device that plugs into your normal telephone socket and splits the line into both a standard telephone socket and a ADSL broadband socket.
You must have one microfilter connected to each telephone socket on the line the ADSL service is enabled for even if you will not connect the ADSL modem / router at
that point. The microfilter must be the first device plugged into the telephone socket.
Failure to have a microfilter correctly installed on every socket may result in interference (buzzing noises etc.) on your telephone and / or reduced performance and
possible loss of service on your broadband access.
If you have a burglar alarm that uses the telephone line it is important not to forget this needs to be connected through a microfilter. We also strongly recommend
that you check the correct operation of your burglar alarm after installation of a broadband service on your telephone line.

Do I still need to pay Telefonica for the telephone line rental?

Yes. The broadband service uses your normal Telefonica analogue exchange line to provide the high speed Internet access so you do still need to pay Telefonica for
the line rental and any normal calls on that line.

Can I have a static IP address?

Yes, you can setup a static IP address once your broadband has been activated, monthly cost is approximately 13 euros.
